What a Hollywood Smile Actually Is
A “Hollywood smile” is not a single product. It is a treatment plan that combines some or all of: veneers, zirconia or E-max crowns, whitening, gum contouring and — where teeth are missing — implants.
The result should be designed around your face, lip line and bite, not copied from a template. Two people asking for the same smile will rarely need the same treatment.
Veneers or Crowns? The Distinction That Matters Most
This single point separates a good outcome from an irreversible mistake. A true veneer is a wafer-thin ceramic shell, roughly 0.3–0.7 mm thick, bonded to the front of the tooth. Only a minimal amount of enamel is reduced.
A full crown covers the entire tooth and requires it to be reduced by about 1.5–2 mm all round — effectively removing most of the enamel. Crowns are the right choice for heavily filled, broken or root-treated teeth. They are the wrong choice for healthy teeth that only need cosmetic refinement.
Surveys of patients seeking treatment abroad found that a majority of those who asked for “veneers” were in fact given, or required, full zirconia crowns, and a notable minority confused implants with veneers entirely. “Turkey Teeth”: Why the Term Exists
The criticism behind the phrase is not about veneers, and not about Türkiye. It is about a specific pattern: healthy teeth aggressively prepared for full crowns, at speed, without long-term planning.
Enamel does not grow back. Once a healthy tooth has been reduced for a crown, it remains dependent on prosthetic restoration for life. Crowns can later be replaced with better ones, but the tooth cannot be returned to its original state. How Long Does a Hollywood Smile Last?
Longevity depends on material and on how you look after it:
Porcelain (E-max) veneers typically last 10–15 years, with around 95% surviving at ten years. Composite veneers last about 5–7 years (roughly 70–80% at ten years). Zirconia crowns last 10–15 years or longer and perform best in high-stress areas.
These figures assume good oral hygiene, regular check-ups and a night guard if you grind your teeth. No restoration is permanent, and a “lifetime guarantee” should be read carefully.
What Determines the Cost
Price is driven by the number of teeth treated, the material (composite, E-max, zirconia), whether gum contouring or implants are required, the quality of the dental laboratory, whether temporary restorations are included, and the aftercare and warranty terms.
Ranges commonly quoted for treatment in Türkiye are roughly €350–500 per crown, €250–700 per veneer, and €800–1,500 for an implant including its crown. Treat any figure quoted before an X-ray or CT scan as marketing, not a plan. Ask for an itemised quote that names the material brand and states exactly what is and is not included. Red Flags Before You Book
Be cautious if: a price is quoted before any imaging; you are promised a “full mouth in three days”; healthy teeth are to be ground down for crowns without a clinical reason; the treating dentist is not named in advance; there is no written treatment plan; or results are “guaranteed”.
