Replace one missing tooth permanently without touching neighbouring teeth.
A single tooth implant replaces one missing tooth with a titanium root and a crown — without grinding down adjacent teeth as a bridge would.

A small titanium implant is placed in the jaw, left to heal for 3–4 months, then topped with a custom zirconium crown. See all implant options.
It preserves bone, protects neighbouring teeth and looks and functions like a natural tooth.
The teeth either side of your gap are healthy. A bridge requires both to be reduced by about 1.5–2 mm for crowns — permanent structural loss to solve a problem elsewhere. An implant touches neither.
It also loads the bone beneath the gap, which otherwise resorbs, fastest in the first year. See implant vs bridge.
Replacing a molar is largely an engineering task. Replacing an upper front tooth is an aesthetic one, and considerably harder.
The gum must be sculpted so the crown emerges as a tooth does, not as a peg. Bone at the front is thin and resorbs after extraction, taking the gum with it. Where the smile line is high, a millimetre of recession is visible.
Front-tooth implants therefore often involve grafting, a longer provisional phase, and a ceramist who understands translucency. Ask to see cases like yours.
| Stage | Typical timing |
|---|---|
| Extraction, if needed | Socket heals 2–3 months (or graft placed at once) |
| Implant placement | Under an hour |
| Osseointegration | 3–6 months (up to ~9 with grafting) |
| Abutment + final crown | 2–3 appointments over about a week |
Hence two trips for treatment abroad. See the healing timeline.
A CT scan measures bone height and width and locates the sinus and the inferior alveolar nerve. Thin bone needs grafting; an upper back tooth may need a sinus lift.
Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and untreated gum disease must be addressed first. The last is non-negotiable, because periodontitis becomes peri-implantitis.
Clean around it as you would a natural tooth, with particular attention to where the crown meets the gum. Six-monthly professional cleaning. A night guard if you grind.
Published survival is roughly 92–97% at ten years. The implant will not decay; the gum around it can become inflamed and lose bone, and that is the only realistic threat. See success rates and aftercare.
