A soft-food guide for the first days and weeks.
What to eat after a dental implant: cool, soft foods that nourish without pressure, heat or debris at the site.
Soft, nutritious foods support healing after implant surgery while protecting the site.

Soups, yoghurt, eggs, mashed vegetables and smoothies (no straw). See implant aftercare.
Hard, crunchy, very hot and spicy foods early on.
In the first days after implant surgery, what you eat directly affects healing. The goal is nutrition without pressure, heat or debris at the surgical site while the gum closes and osseointegration begins.
| Period | Foods |
|---|---|
| Day 1–2 | Cool, soft: yoghurt, smoothies (no straw), mashed potato, soup (not hot) |
| Day 3–7 | Soft: eggs, pasta, fish, well-cooked vegetables |
| Week 2+ | Gradually back to normal, chewing away from the site |
No straws (suction can dislodge the clot). No hot food or drink early (increases bleeding and swelling). No hard, crunchy or sticky foods (seeds, nuts, crusty bread) that can lodge in the site or stress the implant. No smoking or alcohol – both impair healing and lower implant survival.
Chew on the opposite side, rinse gently with saline or a prescribed rinse (not vigorously) after day one, and keep the area clean. Good early nutrition and no smoking protect the ~96% ten-year survival. See implant recovery and swelling after surgery.
