Swelling is a normal part of healing
After extractions, implants or gum surgery, some swelling is expected. It typically peaks on day 2–3 and then subsides over the following days. It reflects the body’s normal inflammatory response, not a complication – provided it follows this rising-then-falling pattern.
What reduces it
Cold packs on the cheek (20 minutes on, 20 off) in the first 24–48 hours. Head elevated when resting and sleeping. The prescribed anti-inflammatory or medication schedule. Soft, cool foods and no smoking or alcohol, which impair healing. Gentle activity, no heavy exertion early.
