What E-max Actually Is
E-max is a brand name for lithium disilicate, a glass-ceramic pressed or milled into veneers, crowns and inlays. Its defining property is translucency: light passes through it much as it passes through natural enamel.
That is why it is the material of choice for a single front tooth, where the restoration must disappear among its neighbours rather than merely match them.

Longevity
Porcelain veneers of this class typically last 10–15 years, with around 95% surviving at ten years. Because E-max bonds adhesively to enamel, the bond itself contributes to the strength of the restored tooth — which is one reason minimal-prep veneers survive as well as they do.

Where E-max Fails
Under heavy occlusal load without protection. Untreated bruxism is the leading cause of fracture, which is why a night guard is part of the treatment and not an upsell.
It also fails when bonded to dentine rather than enamel — adhesion is far weaker. If a tooth has lost most of its enamel, a crown may be the sounder choice, and zirconia may be the sounder material.
Questions Worth Asking
“Is this genuinely E-max lithium disilicate, or a generic pressed ceramic?” (Ask for the ingot brand.) “Which laboratory, and will there be a try-in appointment?” “Is a night guard included?” “How much enamel will be removed?”
