Why No Honest Plan Exists Without Imaging
A panoramic radiograph (OPG) shows all the teeth, both jaws, the sinuses and the jaw joints in one image. It reveals decay between teeth, bone loss, abscesses at root tips, retained roots, cysts and impacted wisdom teeth — most of which are invisible in the mouth.

An implant plan without a CT is a guess about where the nerve is.
The Dose, in Perspective
Dental radiographs use very low doses. A panoramic image is a small fraction of the natural background radiation you receive each year simply by existing, and dental CBCT is higher than a panoramic but far below a medical CT of the head.
Modern equipment, collimation and a thyroid collar reduce it further. The clinically relevant risk of not imaging — an implant placed into a nerve, a missed abscess — is considerably larger.
Pregnancy, Children and Sensible Caution
Radiographs are generally deferred in pregnancy unless there is an urgent diagnostic need; tell your dentist if you are or might be pregnant. In children, imaging is taken only when it will change the treatment.
The principle is the same everywhere: image when the image answers a question, not routinely because a package includes it.

Ask for your radiographs digitally, not as a phone photograph of a screen. Your dentist at home needs them as a baseline: bone levels change slowly, and the first image is what future ones are compared against.
