The full procedure, step by step, in a single day.
How a hair transplant is done: four steps in one day, under local anaesthetic, over 6–9 hours.
A hair transplant follows a clear sequence of steps, all completed in one day under local anesthesia.
Consultation & hairline design, anesthesia, donor extraction, channel opening, implantation and aftercare. See the full guide.
A hair transplant runs in four steps and takes 6–9 hours under local anaesthetic: planning and shave, anaesthetic, graft extraction, placement.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Planning | The doctor measures donor density and Norwood stage and draws the hairline – confirmed in the mirror |
| 2. Anaesthetic | Local anaesthetic to donor and recipient areas |
| 3. Extraction | Individual follicular units removed with the micro-punch (FUE) and stored chilled |
| 4. Placement | Channels opened at the right angle, grafts placed – where naturalness is decided |
Not the method label, but: the transection rate at extraction (under 5%), the ischemia time outside the body, the channel angle – and whether the doctor performs channels and hairline personally. In DHI the separate channel step is skipped; in FUE and sapphire FUE channels are opened first.
First wash next day, shock loss in week 2–6, new growth from month 3–4, final result at 12–18 months. See timeline month by month and aftercare.
