Add fullness to a previous transplant or thinning area.
Hair transplant density is realistically 35–45 follicular units per cm² versus 80–100 native – yet good results still look full.
A density or touch-up session adds fullness to a previous transplant or a thinning zone.
Ideal for extra density after an earlier procedure, depending on donor supply. See graft planning.
Native hair has about 80–100 follicular units per cm². Transplanted density is realistically 35–45 FU/cm² – about half. Yet good results look dense, because the eye reads contrast, not follicle counts. Even 50% of native density can look full to an observer.
Every graft needs blood supply. Pack channels too tightly and follicles compete for oxygen, survival falls – and 45 densely placed FU/cm² become 30 surviving. More density in the plan can mean less density in the result. The right question is not “how many grafts per cm²” but “how many survive”.
Hair calibre: thick hair covers more than fine – the strongest single factor.
Curl: curly hair overlaps area; straight hair stands off.
Hair/skin contrast: dark hair on light skin shows every gap; grey or light hair hides it.
Growth angle: shallow-set hair lies over the scalp and covers; steep stands off. See afro-textured hair and grey hair.
You do not get your youthful density back – you get a credible framing. Demanding 80 FU/cm² demands a field that cannot be perfused and risks lower survival. And density in the wrong place is wasted: the front frames the face, the crown is barely visible in the mirror. See front or crown?

Calibre, curl, contrast and angle set the visual impression; density in the wrong place is wasted.
