Broader coverage including the crown — what 4,000 grafts do.
A 4,000 grafts hair transplant equals about 8,000–10,000 hairs, typically covering Norwood 4 to early Norwood 5.
A 4,000-graft hair transplant provides broad coverage, often including the front and early crown (Norwood 4–5).

4,000 grafts equal about 8,000–10,000 hairs, typically covering Norwood 4 to early Norwood 5: hairline, front zone and part of the mid-scalp – or front plus a moderate crown, but rarely both at maximum density. It is the number where honest planning begins: what do we prioritise?
With limited donor material the rule is almost always: the front zone comes first. It frames the face and is visible in every mirror and photo. A crown stays unobtrusive as long as the front holds. Trying to cover both with 4,000 grafts gives you both thin – and nothing left for touch-ups.
Yes, in experienced hands. It runs 8–9 hours, often split over two days. Critical is the ischemia time: the longer grafts are stored outside the body, the lower the survival rate. Large sessions need a large, practised team – not a tired one.
Donor hair does not grow back. On average 4,000–8,000 usable grafts are available over a lifetime, and only about 40–50% of donor capacity can be safely harvested. Hair loss is progressive: the transplanted hairs stay, the native ones behind them keep falling. Without medical support a gap can form behind the new hairline. See minoxidil vs. transplant and bald again after a transplant?
When measured donor density is high enough, hair loss is medically stabilised, and the area justifies it. If any of these is missing, 4,000 is not a solution but an early withdrawal from a finite account. See 3,000 grafts and 5,000 grafts.

With limited donor material the front zone comes first – covering front and crown together usually gives both thin.
