Common misconceptions about dental work abroad.
Many fears about dental treatment — especially abroad — come from myths rather than facts.

“Cheaper means worse” and “veneers ruin teeth” are myths. Quality depends on the clinic you choose.
Ask questions and choose accredited care — see dental treatments in Turkey.
False as stated. Türkiye trains dentists over five years, licences clinics through the Ministry of Health, and buys implants and ceramics from the same global manufacturers as Germany or the UK.
What is true is that outcomes vary enormously between clinics — as they do in every large market. The variable is the provider, not the passport. See is treatment in Türkiye safe.
True veneers remove 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel. But a large share of what is sold as “veneers” is full crowns, requiring 1.5–2 mm all round — almost all the enamel. Enamel does not regenerate.
That is not low risk. It is a lifelong commitment made in an afternoon. Ask in writing which one you are receiving. See veneers vs crowns.
Implants show survival around 92–97% at ten years — excellent, not eternal. They can develop peri-implantitis and be lost.
Root-treated teeth show roughly 97% survival and 93% success at ten years, with lower complication rates than implants. The idea that extraction and implantation is an upgrade over saving a tooth is, in most cases, simply wrong. See root canal vs extraction.
Enamel has no nerves. Decay between teeth is invisible and painless until it reaches the pulp. Gum disease destroys bone silently, and smoking suppresses the bleeding that would have warned you. An abscess stops hurting the moment it bursts — and keeps destroying bone.
Pain is a late signal, not an early one. See gum disease and abscess.
Professionally supervised whitening does not damage enamel; sensitivity is temporary and usually settles within one to three days. But it lightens only natural enamel — crowns, veneers and fillings do not change colour.
Whiten first, wait two weeks, then match restorations to the new shade. Doing it in the reverse order is one of the most expensive mistakes in cosmetic dentistry. See whitening vs veneers.
