What a Remote Consultation Can Genuinely Establish
From photographs and existing radiographs, a dentist can form a reasonable idea of what you are asking for, whether it is broadly achievable, roughly how many appointments it would take, and an estimated cost range.
That is useful. It saves you a wasted journey, and it lets you compare clinics on how they think rather than on how they advertise.
What It Cannot Establish
Bone volume. The position of the nerve and sinus. Decay between teeth. Bone loss from periodontitis. Cracks. Whether a tooth is savable. Whether you need a graft.

How to Make the Consultation Useful
Send: recent photographs (front, both sides, upper and lower arches, and a natural smile), any radiographs taken in the last year, a list of your medications, and a written note of what bothers you — not what treatment you think you want.
That last distinction matters. “My front teeth are dark and I dislike the gap” invites a diagnosis. “I want sixteen veneers” invites a sale.
What to Ask, and What to Listen For
Ask: “Who will treat me, and what is their specialism?” “Is this an estimate or a price?” “What could change after the CT scan?” “What is the most conservative option here?”
Listen for a dentist who volunteers a cheaper, more conservative alternative. Listen for someone who says “I cannot tell without imaging.” Those are the good answers, and they are rare.

A fixed price within minutes. A treatment plan before any radiograph is requested. Sixteen crowns proposed for a cosmetic complaint. No named dentist. Pressure to pay a deposit to “hold the price”. A guarantee of results.
