What Accreditation Is — and Is Not
In Türkiye, every clinic and hospital must hold a licence from the Ministry of Health. That is a legal minimum, not a mark of excellence. Accreditation is voluntary and independent: JCI (Joint Commission International) audits hospital-wide patient safety; ISO 9001 certifies quality management processes.
Neither audits the skill of the dentist who will treat you. They audit the system around them — which is worth a great deal, and is not the same thing.
What Accreditation Actually Checks
Sterilisation protocols and their documentation. Traceability of instruments and implant batches. Infection control. Emergency preparedness and staff training. Medication handling. Patient records and consent. Incident reporting — that is, whether the clinic records its own failures.
That last item is the most revealing. Organisations that record failures learn from them.
How to Verify a Claim
Ask for the certificate: the issuing body, the certificate number and its expiry date. JCI accreditation is publicly searchable on the Joint Commission International website. ISO certificates carry a registrar and a number that can be checked with that registrar.
Beware badges that name no issuing body, “internationally recognised” without naming the recogniser, and awards from organisations that sell awards. A logo is not a certificate.
What Matters More Than the Logo
The named dentist’s qualification and specialism. Whether imaging precedes the price. The dental laboratory and ceramist — invisible, and decisive for how crowns and veneers fit and look. Time allocated per case. Whether a try-in appointment exists. Whether implant brand and batch numbers are given to you in writing.

A Sensible Checklist
Ministry of Health licence — verify. JCI or ISO — verify the number and expiry. Named dentist with a specialism relevant to your treatment. Imaging before price. Written itemised plan. Named implant and ceramic brands. Warranty with exclusions in writing. Aftercare pathway once you are home.
