Implant or fat transfer – two routes
A breast augmentation uses either silicone implants or your own fat (harvested by liposuction). Implants give a clear, planned increase in volume; fat transfer looks more natural but is limited in volume and partly non-permanent, as some of the fat is reabsorbed.
What implants realistically mean
Modern implants last on average 10–15 years but do not need routine replacement – only if there is a problem such as rupture or capsular contracture. Capsular contracture (hardening of the tissue capsule) occurs in about 2.5–19% depending on the study. The rare BIA-ALCL (a lymphoma) mainly affects textured implants, estimated at 1:2,200 to 1:86,000.
What decides the choice
Your starting anatomy, tissue cover, body frame and goal. Oversized implants strain the tissue and can lead to sagging over time. A good surgeon recommends the right size, not the largest possible. With significant sagging a breast lift is often combined.
Safety and aftercare
The operation is done under general anaesthetic. Beware of “package” offers without a specialist examination, without implant documentation (manufacturer, batch number, implant passport) and without organised aftercare at home. See cosmetic surgery in Turkey.
