Asian Hair Transplant

Tailored planning for thick, straight Asian hair.

An asian hair transplant works with thicker, mostly straight hair and lower average donor density – angle precision matters more here.

Asian hair is typically thick and straight with naturally lower density, so planning is tailored.

Approach

Angle and density planning ensure a natural result. See graft planning and the full guide.

What sets Asian hair apart surgically

Three properties shape the plan: the hair is usually thicker in calibre, mostly straight, and donor density is on average lower than European hair. Add a high contrast between very dark hair and lighter skin.

The two opposing effects

In your favour: thicker hair means more substance per graft. A single hair covers more than a fine one.

Against you: straight hair stands off and barely overlaps; it does not forgive wrong angles. And the strong contrast makes any gap visible – the same gap would not show with light hair on light skin. So angle precision matters more here than anywhere; a channel too steep gives visibly protruding hair.

Technical consequences

Thicker hair often means a larger punch (0.9–1.0 mm) and larger recipient channels, raising the demand on channel density without compromising blood supply. Fewer grafts per cm² is the safer choice. The lower average donor density shrinks the lifetime budget: often fewer than 4,000–8,000 grafts. So the front zone takes priority. See 3,000 grafts: what that covers.

The hairline

A low, straight hairline looks especially artificial on straight, dark hair. Naturalness comes from an irregular transition zone with single-hair grafts and shallow angles – the signature of an experienced surgeon. Ask to see cases with your hair type, no earlier than 12 months, in the same light. See before-after.

asian hair transplant: key points

Thicker hair adds substance per graft, but straight hair barely overlaps and shows wrong angles; high contrast makes gaps visible.

Lower donor density shrinks the budget, so the front zone takes priority.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Asian hair transplant different?
Asian hair is often thick and straight with lower density, needing tailored planning.
Does it look natural?
Yes, with correct angle and density planning.
Is FUE suitable?
Yes, FUE and DHI both work well.
What is different about Asian hair?
It is thicker in calibre, mostly straight, and donor density is on average lower than European hair. The high contrast between dark hair and lighter skin makes gaps more visible.
Do I need more grafts?
Not necessarily: thicker hair carries more substance per graft. But straight hair barely overlaps and does not forgive wrong angles, and lower donor density shrinks the lifetime budget. The front zone takes priority.
Why is the channel angle especially important?
Straight, thick hair visibly protrudes at a steep channel. Naturalness comes from shallow angles and an irregular transition zone with single-hair grafts.
